I’m introducing the Korean revenge drama ‘The Glory‘ that I enjoyed so much last year. This drama depicts the meticulous and brutal revenge of a woman, whose soul was shattered by school violence in her childhood, and who stakes her life on this revenge. It is one of Netflix’s biggest hits, ranking third in the global weekly rankings after its release on Netflix. Like ‘Taxi Driver‘ that I introduced yesterday, it is one of the dramas I strongly recommend to those who like the revenge drama genre.

The Glory

  • Genre: Crime, Revenge, Thriller
  • Release Date: December 2022
  • Episodes: 16
  • Production Company: Studio Dragon
  • Directors: Kim Eun-sook, Ahn Gil-ho
  • Cast: Song Hye-kyo, Lee Do-hyun, Lim Ji-yeon, Yeom Hye-ran, Park Sung-hoon, Jung Sung-il, Kim Hee-ra, Cha Ju-young, Kim Geon-woo

‘The Glory’ was directed by the famous writer Kim Eun-sook, who created hit works such as ‘Descendants of the Sun‘, ‘Mr. Sunshine‘, and ‘Guardian: The Lonely and Great God‘. She said that she read many posts from actual victims of school violence while she was writing the script and considering the title. She learned that the victims wanted sincere apologies from the perpetrators rather than compensation. She named the drama thinking that a sincere apology might be a way to regain the human dignity, honor, and glory lost due to school violence.

What is the plot

Moon Dong-eun, who was an ordinary high school student, had her life completely destroyed by school violence. As time passed, she meticulously planned and executed her revenge. The drama begins when Moon Dong-eun becomes the homeroom teacher of the school where Park Yeon-jin’s child, who tormented her, is attending. Moon Dong-eun, revealing herself in front of the perpetrators who committed school violence against her in the past, carries out a meticulous and delicate revenge. Unexpected characters and events occur as she carries out her revenge, but could her revenge be successful?

Who is the cast

Moon Dong-eun (Actress Song Hye-kyo)

Moon Dong-eun, a victim of school violence, prepares for revenge for 18 years after graduation. She even gives up laughing for the sake of revenge. The reason is that she might forget the incident if she laughs. The role of Moon Dong-eun is played by actress Song Hye-kyo, who gave a passionate performance in ‘Descendants of the Sun‘ and ‘Now We Are Breaking Up‘.

Joo Ye-jeong (Actor Lee Do-hyun)

Joo Ye-jeong is a bright and capable plastic surgeon. One day, he first meets Moon Dong-eun, who is brought into the hospital emergency room after collapsing on the street. He realizes why she approached him, but decides to willingly be used for her revenge. The role of Joo Ye-jeong is played by actor Lee Do-hyun, who is the lead actor in the upcoming movie ‘Exhuma‘.

Park Yeon-jin (Actress Lim Ji-yeon)

Lim Ji-yeon is a school violence perpetrator who does wrong things without any guilt. She always thinks her actions are right, and her parents solve any problems that arise. Thus, she is a character who is not afraid of anything in the world. The role of Park Yeon-jin is played by actress Lim Ji-yeon, who gave a passionate performance in the recent drama ‘The Killing Vote‘.

Yeom Hye-ran (Actress Kang Hyun-nam)

Yeom Hye-ran, who can’t do anything, is a wife who gets beaten and a powerless mother. One day, she asks Moon Dong-eun to kill her husband, and decides to become a true ally in Moon Dong-eun’s revenge. The role of Yeom Hye-ran is played by actress Kang Hyun-nam.

Jeon Jae-jun (Actor Park Sung-hoon)

Jeon Jae-jun is another school violence perpetrator who destroyed Moon Dong-eun’s life along with Park Yeon-jin. He lives as a boss wherever he goes and falls into a trap planned by Moon Dong-eun. The role of Jeon Jae-jun is played by actor Park Sung-hoon, who played the role of the protagonist’s husband in the recently released ‘The Bequeathed‘.

Ha Do-young (Actor Jung Sung-il)

Ha Do-young is the husband of Park Yeon-jin and the representative of Jaepyeong Construction Company. At some point, facing Pandora’s box of his wife Park Yeon-jin due to Moon Dong-eun who seeped into his daily life, he gets caught in the whirlpool of revenge. The role of Ha Do-young is played by actor Jung Sung-il.

‘The Glory’ is a work that I like in terms of the overall story and development. Of course, the acting of the actors was good, so I was able to immerse myself deeply in the drama. If there’s anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, it’s one of the works I’d like to strongly recommend. And I hope that this drama has been a time for the actual school violence perpetrators to reflect, and a time for the victims to get some comfort.
